The group has close relations with a number of providers and have run or managed a number of training schemes of benefit to the membership.
The Employment Ownership of Skills Scheme
Now closed to new members this scheme consisted of bespoke training in the areas of Computer Aided Design by Falmouth University; Digital Sales and Marketing by the Chartered institute of Marketing; and Continuous Improvement by Exelin (South West Manufacturers Advisory Service). In addition there was support for Apprentices both below and above the age of 18.
Over 100 individuals from 20 member companies have taken part with most receiving a 75% contribution towards the direct training costs.
Local Response Fund under Skills Support for the Workforce
This fund for manufacturers runs until July 2015 and supports any eligible accredited training delivered by an authorised provider. Up to 75% funding support may be available.
We are working very closely with both Cornwall and Truro & Penwith Colleges on this scheme and have developed a package of training courses that are pre-qualified. Cornwall College Courses / Truro & Penwith College Courses
The scheme is primarily aimed at smes but there is some availability for larger companies though those numbers are very restricted.
We are constantly monitoring new training support programmes to see if there are any that could be of benefit to the Group working together to apply for them rather than individual companies doing it for themselves. We therefore recommend that companies contact the Cornwall Development Company / LEP / Truro & Penwith College / Cornwall College or Exelin if they have individual training needs that cannot be accommodated under our schemes.
One example of a scheme that has benefited 5 members and to which a number of others are applying is Business Investment for Growth (BIG)
